About this book

The Missional Mom

Living with Purpose at Home and in the World
By: Helen Lee

".....The evangelical subculture, however, tends to reduce the domain of the Christian mom to that inside the walls of her house.  But the reality is that today’s Christian moms come from a full range of personal and professional context, whether they are homemakers, full-time in the marketplace, or somewhere in between.  Numerous Christian mothers today are living missional lives, using their gifts and abilities to further God’s kingdom by engaging the world around them.  They artfully, passionately, sometimes messily, juggle multiple callings and demonstrate in their modern day contexts how they are emulating the woman of noble character in Proverbs 31.

The Missional Mom will affirm Christian mothers who desire to not only to build their homes in a Christ-like way, but engage the world with their skills, abilities, and interests.  It won’t minimize the importance of a woman’s role in her home but it will encourage her to not ignore the stirrings God has planted within her to extend her influence."

In addition to authoring The Missional Mom, she served as co-editor and contributor of Growing Healthy Asian-American Churches (IVP, 2006) and has written numerous articles for publications such as Christianity TodayLeadership Journal, and Today’s Christian Woman, twice earning Higher Goals awards in reporting from the Evangelical Press Association. Two of her favorite former jobs were working as the publisher of re:generation quarterly (where she was fortunate to work with the inimitable Andy Crouch) and being assistant editor at Christianity Today, a position through which she met or interviewed numerous fascinating people, such as Billy Graham, Michael Card, J.I. Packer, and Chuck Colson, among others.

Helen is also an entrepreneur at heart and co-founded the Best Christian Workplaces with Al Lopus in 2002 to help Christian organizations improve the quality of their human resources management. Helen has the great fortune to be represented by Chris Park at Foundry Media. She is also a part of Redbud Writers Guild, a group of women who are “fearlessly expanding the feminine voice in our churches, communities and cultures.”'

".......what do mothers need in their lives?....a sense of calling and purpose?.....to be all that God has made her to be?.......to live in a more Christ-honoring way?"

"......Missional Mom is an amazing book filled with examples and ideas about how moms can make their worlds “missional.”  The idea of missional is that no matter where you are, what you are doing, God placed you there on purpose and for a purpose.  Helen Lee delves deep into the subject, biblically, theologically, and practically — sighting numerous examples of moms who chose to go from mundane to missional....."
